Just read over the flood account from the Epic of Gilgamesh. This story predates the Biblical flood writings and most scholars agree that the epic written in Genesis is an exagerated retelling. Noah it seems is much older, lives longer and builds a bigger boat. It's almost as if this is a "fish" story.
Aside from the size difference of the Arks in question I found some interesting points that have generally been omitted from Sunday school. Namely, that Noah took 7 pairs (14) of clean animals and only 2 pairs (4) of unclean animals; most ministers mention "two by two" hinting that only 1 pair of each animal--male and female--made it onto the Ark.
Looking for descriptions for clean and unclean animals I found some references in Leviticus to "four footed" things that creep, and birds that go around on all fours. I'm thinking that god must have either told Moses the wrong information, Moses must have got it wrong, there were four legged birds, and insects back in the day, or science is deceiving us.
No, science isn't deceiving us. There were no four footed insects. Nor were there for footed birds.
